Creative people....

It is said, (according to David Perkins of Harvard University...) there are six common traits of creative people.  These six traits are present to varying degrees in all creative people.  The differences between people who are creative but unsuccessful as artists, creative and moderately successful as artists, creative and successful, or genius, depend on the degree to which those people have and develop each of the six traits.

The traits are:

1.  Strong commitment to a personal aesthetic
2.  Ability to excel in finding problems
3.  Mental mobility
4.  Willingness to take risks
5.  Objectivity
6.  Inner motivation

I think I agree with these 6 traits, although there are countless other opinions about what makes some people more creative than others.

Looking at the first trait, you will agree with me that creative people always seek to re-create their world, and give expression to the world around them as they see it. The artist takes a look at a his environment, and expresses it on a canvas as he sees it. The musician uses his vocal chords to express the sentiments, emotions and thoughts contained in a set of words, derived from an attempt to explain life and all its complexities.

Creative people also love to provide solutions. They see every problem as an opportunity for change or innovation.

Creative people are risk takers.

Over the next couple of days or weeks we will be profiling creative people around us, specifically people who out of passion for creative expression, pursue some dream or vision regardless of current occupation or past training. Doctors who have turned to music, bankers who have become photographers, et cetera.
